Will DDR3 be practical for a netbook?
The new asus 1016p and 1018p netbooks are coming with ddr3 ram. Although not released and not even officially priced, they are projected to be well over $400. (link: http://www.amazon.com/Asus-1018P-PU17-BK-10-1-Inch-Netbook-Black/dp/B003UNF0KO).
I’ve been waiting for these models to come out since they were announced a couple of months ago, and after seeing how much they are going to cost, I think the expensive price beats the purpose of them being netbooks. What else is needed for something of convenience? I know its just the progress of technology, but with these prices, I’d rather get a laptop with better capabilities. The new Asus’s will have usb 3.0, but is that really needed? Honestly for first wave ddr3 netbooks, necessary will ddr3 be?

they won’t be really necessary, like you said, it would be better better if you just got a laptop at that price. USB 3.0 is also not needed as well as there is hardly any devices that uses USB 3.0. a ddr2 netbook is fine. When technology starts to evolve and the prices are reduced ddr3 and usb 3.0 netbooks will be worth getting.
