After a series of speculations surrounding its new product, Apple finally launched the iPad. This device is a touchscreen tablet PC, which defines ultra-portability with a half inch thin body, a 9.7 inch display, and weighs a trifle 1.5 pounds. iPad will be available in 16, 32, and 64 GB memory specifications, with the host of connectivity options including Bluetooth, 802.11n WiFi and optional 3G. An optional 3G will however cost you an additional $130. The pricing for Apple iPad will be $499 for a 16-gigabyte model, $599 for a 32 GB version and $699 for a 64-gigabyte model with Wi-Fi. Other major additions include a 30-pin Dock connector, a speaker, a microphone, as well as an accelerometer and a compass. The iPad further features a keyboard dock, which connects underneath in the portrait orientation and offers a manual keyboard, as typing on a touchscreen is a tedious task. Apple iPad runs on a custom 1GHz Apple “A4″ chip processor, which is a must have for this device boasting of multitasking. Before the launch of iPad, Apple said ” the device will be much more capable and portable than the modern laptops”, by integrating a 10-hour battery life and a month of standby, the software giant tries to prove its point ( the battery life of 10 hrs instead of the 4.5 or 5 hrs of a laptop,and undoubtedly it is ultra-portable). If we consider the features, iPad has more or less similar functions to the Apple’s popular iPhone or iPod Touch. For instance these devices share a common application store with almost identical applications. The only difference for the application part is that iPad is Apple is first device to use the iBookStore, an e-reader application. The iPad supports a resolution of 1024×768 for VGA out along with a 480p composite out through the dock adapter cables. A camera attachment kit is further integrated to import photos from your camera via USB or directly through an SD card reader. Considering the global launch of the device, Apple has integrated language support for English, French, German, Japanese, Dutch, Italian, Spanish, Simplified Chinese and Russian. Now all that looks good huh!, but there’s a catch here. Apple iPad, a multitasking device that promises to deliver a superior web browsing experience, does not supports Flash- an integral part of almost 80% of the web pages online.
