I’m redoing the guest room/my work room, so this is what I’m doing. I like a lot of the things you said you liked, so hopefully this will help you a little. =]

I painted my room Lagoon Green, which is teal-ish, and I’m putting dark hardwood in. I found these really cool old pen-drawings and pastel framed portraits in our attic that I’m putting on my wall. I found an old 60′s lamp also that I’m hanging in the corner (It’s really cool).

My room is really really small, so I’m getting rid of the futon and putting in a murphy bed (the kind that folds up into the wall) with a twin mattress that was also in our attic.

That’s basically what I’m doing. I have other small details I need to figure out. I’m making a trip to Goodwill to find more old stuff. I found a cardboard cutout of Charlie Chaplin, and an old dresser. I obviously LOVE old stuff. You should find something you love and put it everywhere. It doesn’t have to be fancy, just something you love and you will be happy with it.
