He bought it for my daughter’s birthday. Great little laptop for her. Battery life is excellent the car seems to be very good. external act as a magnet for fingerprints but did not look good. Some software is a Windows process things so I removed and replaced with OpenOffice and Firefox and Avast Antivirus. Plans to install Linux Mint on it soon. Overall very happy.

Pretty sweet
I’ve never had a Netbook before but this one exceeded my expectations. One quirk I’ve noticed is the connection to the wireless network (occasionally I have to “repair” the wireless connection after starting up the netbook to acquire the network address), but once it’s connected the speeds are very fast as this includes 802.11n networking. The keyboard is easy to use as they are larger keypad buttons and I don’t feel too uncomfortable typing on it. I recommend getting Google Chrome as an internet browser and installing it on this netbook. Also, no need to purchase Norton anti-virus as Microsoft provides a free antivirus software called Microsoft Security Essentials. The battery life on this netbook is also incredible as it lasts up to 10 hours without having to plug it in. This Gateway Netbook is definitely worth the 330 dollars it was priced at when I bought it with free shipping.

Light weight, bright screen, fashion design
My wife and I have been looking for a light netbook with a fashion design for a while, and finally located this one. We got her about three days ago and started to love her. The overall design is eye-catching. We can easily fit her in my wife’s bag. The battery can last at least 6-7 hours when we are doing word processing or browsing. If we are just reading a book, the battery icon says it can go more than 10 hours. Typing is comfortable, both with my large hands and my wife’s small hands. The screen is bright with large viewing angle. The CPU speed is ok. Sometimes we had to wait a couple of seconds after starting the browser before being able to type the address. This is not a big deal to us. I have uninstalled most of the blowware, and installed office 2003 and a bunch of softwares that we normally use. 160 GB hard disk is enough. 1 GB memory is good for our use case, mainly word processing and browsing internet.
We have looked at almost all Acer/ASUS/HP/DELL/Toshiba/Sony/Samsang offerings. Sony vaio W was initially our first choice, but we didn’t want to spend $120 more for a similar product. Samsang has a good design, but also expensive. We don’t like the appearance of others.

Early review, not all features tested.
So I just received this computer today. I commented on an earlier review by “College Kid” and now wish to address some of his concerns. I will update and edit this review as I discover more about the system. As far as the battery goes, you MUST go into the battery settings and change it to the BEST POWER-SAVING option to have over 10 hours. My battery is listed at 90% with 10.18 hours left. As far as the HDD goes, I noticed that it is listed as 138 gb. 11 gbs are used already, which puts me at about 127. I know there is a recovery partition, but this being XP, I have a hard time believing the partition is really 22 gbs. I’ll have to look into this. Otherwise, so far computer is snappy. I don’t have wireless-N in my apt so I’ll have to check that tomorrow, too. Hope this helps.

Nice 10.1″ Netbook with Brilliant Screen
Pros:
-Keyboard is easy to type on. Much better than the previous model.
-Screen at full brightness is one of the brightest I’ve ever seen.
-Outrageous battery life.
-Well balanced netbook (will not tip over in your lap)- 6 cell battery model.
-Windows XP Home – easy to use and compatible with all my apps.
-Connectivity is superb (USB, SD card reader, Bluetooth, etc…)
-Speakers are very good – listened to some music on youtube and it sounded nice.
-Atom N450 shows up as “dual core” processor in task manager. I’ve noticed that its is much faster than N200 series atom processors.
-Microsoft Works: You get the full suite with the laptop. You can still get Office 2003 or download Open Office but its nice to know you can start working on this laptop without adding any software.
Cons:
-Some flex on the keyboard on the upper left corner moving towards the center. Not a big con and you will only notice it if you are “hammering” down on the keys.
-It will get hot on the bottom and you will hear the fan turn on and off after a short period of use.
-Fingerprint MAGNET.
-Multi – Touchpad is a good idea in concept but when I tried web browsing the mouse was “finnicky” and “jittery”.
-Directional keys are very small, as in tiny – almost defeat the purpose of having them. You will get use to them but it will take time.
