What is the best mac laptop to buy?

Looking for a mac notebook for college going into graphic designing which one do you think is the best to buy?

I think any of the current computers will do you nicely. The real issue is that I tend to attach a lot of extra devices to my system when I’m working – it’s worth picking up a decent USB graphic tablet at the same time as your computer.

I would suggest you go for a refurbished Macbook (or the MacBook White) – it’s cheaper than the alternative options while still having more than enough power to do you for your course. It’ll accept all the peripherals you’re likely to need for GD and, most importantly, will attach to a second, desktop sized monitor.

The other options are very, very nice but a little overkill for your requirements – if your budget stretches I think the new Unibody Macbook Pro is a lovely machine with some very interesting technology inside but any current Mac laptop will be powerful enough for your purposes.

Remember to buy some cheap aftersale RAM from any computer shop or online to cost effectively give your Macbook a welcome performance boost. RAM is the most important detail when you’re using a big canvas in Photoshop or anything else.

If you don’t want to install the RAM yourself or can’t find someone else to you can buy it directly from Apple at a premium.
